What is the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls?
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (IORG) is a youth group for girls between the ages of 5 and 10 for Pledges and 11 to 20 for Rainbow Girls. It is only affiliated with the Masonic Lodges, Order of the Eastern Star Chapters, and Courts of Amaranth. Many groups and organizations use the name of Rainbow in their title or organizational name. We are NOT associated with any other group than the three listed above.
Within each Grand Assembly jurisdiction (State or Country) there are local groups (Assemblies) in various towns. The girls learn about charity, hope and service through their involvement and support with various projects, such as Shriners Hospital for Children, Elizabeth H. Repka Charity Fund, Scottish Rite Learning Centers and the ARC of NJ, to name a few.
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls formed it's first assembly on April 6, 1922 in McAlester, Oklahoma (which is the home of our Supreme Assembly). New Jersey is equally proud that its first Assembly was formed in 1923, making it the first state East of the Mississippi to have Rainbow. New Jersey also helped form Rainbow in the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland and New York.
Today, The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls has assemblies in 47 states in the United States in addition to assemblies in many other countries. Currently the states that do not have assemblies are: Delaware, Utah, and Wyoming. The countries outside the United States that DO have assemblies include: Aruba, Australia (both Queensland and New South Wales), Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the Philippines.
Requirements to petition for membership in the organization are:
